Umm Qais or Qays is a town in northern Jordan principally known for its proximity to the ruins of an ancient Decapolis city, the Greco-Roman settlement of Gadara. History of Umm Qais Probably established by the Greeks in the 4th century BC, Gadara was taken by the Seleucids and, in 63BC, by the Romans led by Pompey.
